Applying for Driver's License

First time drivers applying for a driver's license must successfully pas a theoretical and practical driving test exams.
You must have the following:
- Passport
- National Insurance Card
- Certificate of completion from the Road Traffic Departmentment - Examination Unit
- Non-Bahamians should present a passport, permit to reside issued by the Bahamas Immigration Department - Work Permit, Residency Permit, Spousal Permit or Permanent Resident Permit
You will have to go to the Road Traffic Department, Driver’s License Unit to register for the theoritical exam.

You must be with an adult that has a driver's license to supervise you when driving.
An individual learning to drive a motor vehicle in the Bahamas must possess a learner’s permit. Permit holders should ensure that permits are valid before test driving any vehicle. Learner’s permits are valid for six months and are renewed once the permit has become expired or near expiration.

Post-Road Test

You will receive your driver's license and can now drive legally without any supervision of an adult with a driver's license.
You must at all times bring your driver's license with you when driving.

License Renewal

For first time license holder, the driver's license is valid for only 1 year and will then have to be renewed after to make it 3 years.
Process:
Complete a Client Registration with a Customer Service Representative “CSR” if not already completed.
Take a photo with a CSR (All persons renewing will need to take a new photo in the first year).
Inform the CSR whether you are renewing for 1 or 3 years.
Sign when the CSR asks.
Pay the cashier and depending on your location, you will receive your driver’s licence or a receipt to return and collect as per “Turn Around Times” outlined below.
Applicants must have an existing Bahamian driver’s licence and need to follow the process at the Road Traffic Department:You need to speak with a customer service representative to complete a client registration
Take a photo with the customer service representative
Inform customer service representative that you are renewing your expired license
Sign the necessary forms
Pay the necessary feesThen provide the following documents:

Non-Bahamians should present their passport, permit to reside issued by The Bahamas Immigration DepartmentYou can renew at The Road Traffic Department.
